Who Will Make The Call? Part II

This past week, more and more economic bad news sucked the life out of many businesses, bringing with feelings of despair on the upcoming Holiday season. The U.S, EU economies are in recession, most folks with investments have seen their 'nest eggs' hatched prematurely with nothing in it.

'The (former) Big Three' automakers are hat in hand begging for coins from the American taxpayer. On their first trip, the CEO's of this companies showed the idiocy of the whole exercise was the CEO's of the GM, Ford and Chrysler all flew in from Detroit on different private jets. Why is this important? Well imagine poor Oliver Twist asking for more with his plate still full

Someone really needs to knock some common sense into the heads of this overpaid CEO's. Firstly while Japanese, South Korean and other automakers were making adjustments for the future, designing and building cars that are fuel efficient and affordable, the Big 3 were busy churning out fuel guzzling SUV's all in a bid to make profits and get fat bonuses. They busied themselves in lobbying government after government for low crude oil prizes; they simply failed to smell their own rot. These fat cats were so short-sighted about innovation that their only answer or response to the mess Detroit finds itself in is too seek a handout from the very people they have been ripping of for years.

Who will tell these CEO's to pack it in? They obviously are in the wrong business. Detroit needs restructuring but it must start with its Management types First. These restructuring efforts must touch every fabric of the Auto industry as it today. Labour must also come to the table, and be ready to re-negotiate. We all know that cheaper cars can be built elsewhere; whether in Detroit, Ontario or Asia. There is nothing to be gained pretending that this is not a reality.

However, no one should put the workers feet to the fire before asking the Fat cats Management to roast first. The changes must come from the top to be anywhere effective. After all the capitulation of Detroit is primarily Management led.

But for now, someone please fire those 3 clown CEO's.
